Rat running, speeding and parking issues have all been problems on Chadwick Road for many years. They were made a lot worse when the Council made changes to the junction of Bobbers Mill Road and Alfreton Road. Since then the amount of traffic has gone up. The Focus Team have been told that now nearly 1,200 vehicles use Chadwick Road every day.

Before the changes the then Lib Dem councillors for this area warned the Council that this would happen and objected. Since the 2011 elections your Labour councillors have been promising to sort out the problem. In their latest leaflet this autumn they say “we will not be giving up until we have a solution to this problem.” They have not found one yet!

At a public meeting one of the Labour councillors said there is a possible new development at the nearby industrial estate with a new a roundabout meaning cars could go round that, and turn back up Alfreton Road and left up Bobbers Mill Road. He said this will solve the problem. It will not! He made it clear that the Council will not spend any money to solve the problem while this is a possible solution.

Local Lib Dem campaigner Michael Thomas said “This development is years away – if it happens at all! Even then it will only help with part of the problem. It seems to us that your Labour councillors are ‘kicking this into the long grass’. In fact they have given up – or at least pushed the problem the other side of the next local elections. We will do all we can to help residents pressure the Council to sort out the mess they have made.”

Saghir Akhtar added “One thing the Focus Team have done is to ask the Council to do a survey to see if any of the parking on Chadwick Road comes from outside the area.”
