Alison Rouse and Vince CableA £60 million City Deal has been announced for Nottingham. The aim is to boost Nottingham’s economy and create 7,000 jobs, including 300 apprenticeships. It will provide money to invest in a ‘creative quarter’ of high- tech firms, introduce super-fast broadband, improve transport and turn Nottingham in to a ‘low carbon city’.

At a visit to Nottingham in May Business Secretary Vince Cable said that the Government was very positive that it would soon strike a ‘City Deal’ with Nottingham. Deals have already been struck with Liverpool and Manchester. Local campaigner, Jenny Coggles said “This is great news for Nottingham. Despite the Labour Council talking a lot about jobs, Nottingham still has a high level of unemployment. Too many people are not given the sort of help they need to get back to work, leaving them stuck on benefits for months on end.”

Local Lib Dem, Alison Rouse said “This shows that Lib Dems in government are pushing hard for new jobs, especially in areas like Nottingham where they are really needed.

On top of this, the Government have already announced in recent weeks that £160 million will be spent widening the A453, bringing £500 million of business into the region.
